This practical thesis project aims to examine preservation strategies and deterioration risks for the George Henry Craig lantern slide and gelatin glass plate negative collection in collaboration with the Dartmouth Heritage Museum in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Throughout this thesis, I will describe strategies for the care and rehousing of the Craig Collection's 223 glass objects. In addition to my discussion on physical deterioration, I propose a future digital preservation plan and explain my choices of housing materials for the storage of glass photography artifacts. My goal in this project is to provide a helpful resource for the future care and collection of glass photographic materials while additionally shedding light on the hidden value of the Craig Collection's image content of historical Dartmouth and area.
