In this taxonomic revision of Bruguiera Lamk. (Rhizophoraceae) in India four species - gymnorrhiza, sexangula, cylindrica and parviflora have been recognised. The earlier record of B. hainesii was found to be erroneous. In B. gymnorrhiza and B. sexangula the nature of indumentum along petal margin, and length of bristle in the sinus of petal, hitherto considered as of taxonomic significance, were found to be highly variable; these have been illustrated and discussed in detail.
