The impact of hydrogen on corrosion is commonly understood through changes in the corrosion potential caused by the dissolved hydrogen (DH) in the solution. This paper presents an in-situ testing, which demonstrates that hydrogen, as diffusible hydrogen (DiffH) within Alloy 600, can similarly influence the corrosion behavior at 288°C. Additionally, it is proposed that its mechanism differs from that of DH. This interesting finding suggests that the corrosion of metal can also be altered by DiffH in the matrix, expanding beyond the current understanding of the role of hydrogen in the corrosion, particularly stress corrosion cracking.
