Significance Relations with Moscow have become even more strained since the September 2023 fall of Nagorno-Karabakh, compounding the shock caused by Russia failing to protect Armenia from Azerbaijan's military in 2020. Yerevan has sought closer ties with Western powers to help reduce its dependence on Moscow. Impacts Armenia’s trade with fellow Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) member states will continue to grow.
