Case Report: Erysipelas Diagnosed in the Emergency Department

Here we present a case of erysipelas. Erysipelas is a common and potentially dangerous infection. It involves the dermal layer of the skin but may also extend to the superficial cutaneous lymphatics. It is characterized by a relatively fast onset and a well-defined border. The most common sites are lower extremities with face being second. Much feared and often fatal in the pre-antibiotic era, it responds well to antibiotics today and most people have a full recovery without complications.
