For the linear induction motor (LIM), an electromagnetic field model that takes into account both the edge-end effect and the core saturation is proposed. Firstly, the 1D electromagnetic analytic equation of LIM based on the sub-domain method and the Ampere-loop theorem is established, which enables to account for the magnetic field at side-end disconnect and core yoke. Then the saturation coefficient is introduced according to the analytic equation's derivation, which can calculate the nonlinear distribution of core permeability and the edge-end effect on saturation, and the coefficient is updated by the iterative method. The electromagnetic field model is used to examine the edge-end effect and core saturation effect on the base wave thrust, inlet wave thrust, outlet wave thrust, and total thrust. Finally, the accuracy of the electromagnetic field model is verified by Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and static tests. Due to its strong generality and quick calculation speed, the proposed electromagnetic field model is suited for the motor optimization design stage.
