The article is dedicated to the memory of the distinguished scientist, the President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova in 1989–2004, academician Andrei Andrieș. Andrei Andrieș certainly had a lifelong passion – the physics of amorphous chalcogenous materials. On his initiative, a new research field of non-crystalline semiconductor physics was initiated, and a scientific school in the area of non-crystalline semiconductors was formed in Chișinău. Academician Andrei Andries, an outstanding personality in this field, recognized worldwide, is author/ coauthor of numerous scientific publications, participating in international scientific conferences; he was an excellent organizer of science in the Republic of Moldova.
