Recent studies shown that the data of clinical, experimental and epidemiological studies indicates that dietary phytoestrogens, flavonoids and polyphenolic compounds have shown most potent activities for prevention in diabetes. Unfortunately, no conventional anti-diabetic drug is without side effects, and these drugs are expensive. As a result, researchers face a significant challenge in investigating novel anti-diabetic regimens, with nature serving as the primary resource for the discovery of potential therapeutics. Many plants have been shown to act as anti-diabetic agents, with polyphenols being the main active constituents. Natural products with high polyphenol levels can regulate carbohydrate metabolism through a variety of mechanisms, including protecting and restoring beta-cell integrity, increasing insulin releasing activity, and increasing cellular metabolism. Based on the intriguing results of various studies, prophylactic and therapeutic potential of antidiabetic friendly natural products have been suggested.
