This publication presents information from the funds of the 1209 Pomestnyi Prikaz and the 350 Landrat Books and Revision Tales of the Russian State Archive of Ancient Acts, revealing the life and composition of the inhabitants of Arsk in the period from 1656 to 1763, with a description of all classes (clergy, people of posad, mounted Cossacks, foot archers, foreigners, ploughing soldiers) who lived there during a specific period of time. The article describes the transition of the descendants of the military estates to the category of ploughing soldiers. The article also provides the results of an analysis of marital and family relationships between residents of Arsk and residents of other localities. For the first time, the materials of the 1678 census of Arsk, as well as the results of genetic studies of the descendants of certain Arsk families who lived there during the period under consideration, are introduced into scientific circulation.
