Ecus Ltd carried out a geophysical gradiometer survey during late December 2022 at Wade House Road in Shelf, West Yorkshire. The survey covered seven arable fields and amounted to 10.7 ha. The work was conducted to assist with the design and development of the Site. Approximately 25 anomalies or groups of anomalies were identified, comprising features depicted on historic mapping, including the site of Whinney Hall, former field boundaries and associated small enclosures, the possible edge of an old shaft, shown on the 1891 25" OS map, four faint linear features and a number of possible small pits that may be archaeological in nature. Extensive evidence of modern and earlier cultivation was also recorded, including ridge and furrow. Two possible palaeochannels were also interpreted from the data.
