The rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies has significantly impacted many sectors, including librarianship. This paper explores how AI is reshaping library services, transforming professional roles, and challenging traditional practices. It outlines opportunities AI brings—such as personalized information retrieval, automated cataloging, and augmented research support—while also addressing risks like ethical concerns, digital inequity, and job displacement. Through conceptual analysis and case studies, this article argues that librarianship must adopt a hybrid model—integrating AI tools while retaining human expertise to ensure equitable access, critical mediation, and intellectual freedom. The paper concludes by proposing a strategic framework for libraries to harness AI responsibly, including professional training, ethical guidelines, and collaborative governance with stakeholders. The primary focus of this research revolved around the application of artificial intelligence within India's academic library system.
