Subject. This study examines the oral fluid. Objective. The aim of this study is to investigate periodontal and rheological characteristics of oral fluid in patients with gingivitis and false xerostomia before and after the course of the domestic mouth wash containing titanium nanoparticles and its organoleptic properties. Methodology. The study was conducted by the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry and Propaedeutics of Dental Diseases, the Department of General Chemistry at Ural State Medical University. The research was carried out on Icy Cherry mouth wash. The study included 60 patients: the volunteer students in the first, third, fourth and fifth years of the Dental Institute at Ural State Medical University (21 males, 39 females) with the mean age of 19.85 ± 1.75 years. For this clinical and laboratory study the participants were divided into three groups. All patients used Icy Cherry therapeutic preventive mouthwash (produced by Svoboda, Moscow) for two weeks. The clinical study involved assessment of the oral health status and the state of the oral mucosa, evaluation of minor salivary gland functional activity. The rheological analysis of the oral fluid included sialometry test using M.M. Pozharitskaya’s method. The viscosity of the oral fluid was measured using V.V. Afanasyev’s method. The statistical analysis of results was performed on a PC with Microsoft Excel 2007 package. Conclusions. The study results showed that the use of the mouthwash containing titanium nanoparticles during the course treatment significantly improves periodontal parameters such as oral hygiene and PMA index. It provides the evidence for its anti-inflammatory, decongestant and therapeutic preventive effects. The course of the mouthwash positively impacts the rheological parameters of the oral fluid in patients from all groups by increasing sialometry values, functional activity of minor salivary glands, pH level of the oral fluid and decreasing viscosity of the oral fluid (p ≤0.05).
