MEDSPACE (Medical Environment Design of Spaces Promoting Atmospheres of Comfort and Experience) is an organization aimed at improving interior design practices in medical education and healthcare settings, including the Medical Sciences Building (MSB). Overall stress and well-being have been shown to be influenced by the environment. Medical school employees and students spend long hours in school buildings. Studies have shown that incorporation of natural elements and colors in interior spaces improve physiological and psychological well-being. This work highlights how interior design can support passive wellness in learning and clinical environments. In MEDSPACE, we plan to bring the medical school community together to promote intentional interior design improvements in shared spaces. This may include adding artwork, plants, and functional furniture along with lighting and color changes. MEDSPACE will also organize seasonal rotating decorations to improve MSB experience and solicit feedback on preferences.
