Abstract Aiming at the problem that the traditional dynamic matrix control (TDMC) strategy cannot synergistically optimize control performance and economic performance, this paper proposes an improved dynamic matrix control (IDMC) strategy based on the synergistic optimization of control performance and economic performance. Firstly, a novel objective function is introduced into the TDMC framework that can synergistically optimize the control performance and economic performance of the control system. Secondly, a weight parameter selection strategy is proposed by separating the dynamic and steady‐state processes of the control system. Subsequently, an IDMC strategy is designed by combining the novel objective function and weight parameter selection strategy. Finally, the proposed IDMC strategy is used in the main steam temperature control system for simulation experiments, and the simulation results show that the output fluctuation suppression performance and economic performance of the IDMC strategy are better than that of the TDMC strategy.
