Abstract Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire, is famous for his bravery and strong values. He also left a lasting legacy, especially in building naval power in India. His dedicated work in creating a strong and organized naval force set the stage for Indian naval warfare, earning him the title of the Father of the Indian Navy. This paper aims to highlight Shivaji Maharaj’s naval efforts and focus on the most important strategies he used. The study looks at these strategies through a psychological lens. It emphasizes mental readiness, motivation, discipline, and an understanding of enemy psychology as key factors that enhanced naval operations. Important points include the construction of strategic sea forts like Sindhudurg and Vijaydurg for coastal security and psychological advantage. It also discusses the use of small, fast naval vessels for surprise attacks and flexibility in operations, along with the need for coastal surveillance and intelligence gathering. The study relies on secondary sources, including historical books, research papers, and scholarly articles. The paper concludes that Shivaji Maharaj’s naval strategies were effective in military terms and strong psychologically, playing a major role in the growth of Indian naval power.
