In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, waste management is a pressing issue due to its rapid urbanization and inadequate infrastructure. A mixed-methods survey approach was employed, including quantitative data collection through structured questionnaires and qualitative insights from focus group discussions with local communities. Households showed a high willingness to participate (85% for recycling programmes), indicating strong community support for sustainable waste management practices. Innovative community-based solutions can significantly enhance environmental sustainability in Addis Ababa by fostering active participation from residents. Policy makers should promote and incentivize these solutions, along with further research to refine implementation strategies.
