Traditional mediation is an integral part of Zambian legal culture, often complementing formal court processes in resolving disputes. A comparative study design was employed, analysing data from legal records and interviews with stakeholders across Zambia. Traditional mediation services were utilised by approximately 30% of litigants seeking alternative dispute resolution before court proceedings, indicating its significant role as an accessible option for justice seekers. The study concludes that while TDRM provide a viable and often preferred path to resolving disputes, they face challenges in formalizing their legal standing and resource allocation. There is a need for greater integration of traditional mediation into the formal legal system and improved support structures for its practitioners.
