Urbanization in Senegal has accelerated over recent decades, influencing literature as writers grapple with themes of modernity, tradition, and identity. The analysis employs a qualitative approach to interpret literary texts from the last decade, analysing themes, character portrayals, and stylistic choices in relation to urban development and its social impacts. A thematic analysis reveals recurring motifs such as the tension between traditional values and modern lifestyles, with significant representation of characters navigating the dichotomy between rural and urban identities. The findings suggest that Senegalese literature offers nuanced insights into how individuals experience and articulate their place within rapidly changing urban landscapes. Policy makers could benefit from incorporating these literary representations to better understand public perspectives on urban development, fostering more inclusive planning initiatives.
