Language Revitalization and Cultural Identity in Ghana's East Africa Context

Language revitalization efforts in Ghana's East Africa context have gained attention due to the region's linguistic diversity and the potential for cultural identity preservation. The study employed qualitative methods including semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with community members and local educators. Data analysis was conducted through thematic coding. A key theme identified in findings is the strong connection between language revitalization efforts and cultural preservation among Ewe-speaking communities, particularly regarding traditional storytelling practices. Language revitalization initiatives play a crucial role in maintaining cultural identity, especially for indigenous populations like those of Tarkwa. This study supports existing literature on the importance of linguistic diversity. Future research should focus on evaluating long-term impacts and potential barriers to language revitalization efforts, while also considering the integration of technology into educational programmes.
