The metaverse, as an emerging digital ecosystem, presents transformative opportunities for the education sector. The traditional university teaching model has problems such as low student participation and limited learning experience. This study proposes a novel, integrated design framework that moves beyond siloed technological applications to address complex, interdisciplinary learning scenarios. Through literature research, case analysis and a rigorously designed pilot experimental study, this research constructs a holistic learning environment, develops corresponding learning activity design methods, and establishes a multi-dimensional evaluation system. A case implementation was conducted to preliminarily validate the framework’s viability. The results show that the metaverse learning environment can effectively improve students’ learning interest and participation. However, the study also critically examines the associated technological, pedagogical, and ethical challenges. This research provides both theoretical innovation and practical guidelines for transforming higher education, emphasizing the balance between technological potential and responsible implementation.
