The global transition toward green energy has become a central pillar of sustainable economic development strategies worldwide. For resource-rich countries such as Azerbaijan, this transition represents both a structural challenge and a strategic opportunity. Historically dependent on hydrocarbon exports, Azerbaijan is increasingly integrating alternative and renewable energy sources into its national development agenda to enhance long-term economic resilience, environmental sustainability, and international competitiveness. This study examines the role of alternative energy sources in supporting sustainable economic development in Azerbaijan within the framework of the global green energy transition. Using a qualitative methodological approach based on systematic literature review and policy analysis, the research evaluates how renewable energy deployment contributes to economic diversification, energy security, and environmental protection. The findings indicate that Azerbaijan’s green energy strategy strengthens sustainable growth by reducing carbon dependency, fostering technological innovation, and aligning national development priorities with global climate objectives.
