This research study explores the complexities and challenges associated with the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in public sector administration in Nigeria, South Africa, and the Republic of Congo. The main objective is to investigate the opportunities and challenges of AI adoption and identify strategies for harnessing its benefits while minimizing its risks. A mixed-methods research design was adopted, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches. Primary data were collected through a survey questionnaire, while secondary data were obtained from existing literature. The study used SPSS (version 25) and NVivo (version 12) software packages for data analysis, guided by the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and Institutional Theory. The study's findings reveal that AI adoption can lead to significant improvements in efficiency and service delivery, but also poses challenges and risks, including cybersecurity threats, job displacement, and bias in decision-making. Based on the findings, recommendations are made to invest in digital infrastructure and skills development, develop effective governance frameworks, and address the potential impact of AI on employment. The adoption of AI in public sector administration requires careful planning and implementation to harness its benefits and minimize its risks. The future of public sector administration depends on it.
