New trends in automotive – Electric drives and power electronics

Automotive field is a common topic in terms of mobility, urban infrastructure and reduction of harmful emissions. Increasing political and scientific pressure on lowering the scale of emission production by the transport sector creates difficult challenges and questions for automotive manufacturers and its further development. Two divisions represent a major part of the electric vehicles, while they ensure the drive and characteristics of the vehicle – electric drives and power electronics. This article covers a brief investigation of up-to-date trends in the automotive sector in terms of electric drives and power electronics. Described trends and technologies are a promising step forward for the automotive field, gaining higher performance levels, while maintaining reliability high and production costs down.
