The article is a personal reflection about the politics of sustainable development in global negotiatingprocesses and what feminist theory and practice can bring to those processes. I first reflect on my experience asan advocate for gender and environment when the sustainable development debate first emerged at the UNCEDEarth Summit in 1992. I then suggest how feminist political ecology in theory and practice can provide insightsinto how to reshape the sustainable development agenda by embracing the politics of care and commoning.
