While social media has brought immense convenience to people’s lives and reshaped their daily behavioral patterns, the continuous increase in its usage frequency has also given rise to behaviors such as excessive use and problematic use. These behaviors not only impair individuals’ physical health, but also exert a significant negative impact on their mental health status and social interaction abilities. Based on a multi-theoretical perspective, this paper systematically explores the inherent contradictions and underlying causes of excessive social media use, and conducts an in-depth analysis of the psychological transformation mechanism through which college students evolve from normal to excessive social media use. The research aims to guide college students to rationally perceive the value and boundaries of social media, effectively alleviate related negative emotions, strengthen their self-identity and self-regulation abilities, and help them make rational use of social media to realize their own values.
