Foods of concern, cardiopreventive medication use and risk of cardiovascular diseases: a prospective study in the CARTaGENE cohort
Key Points
Lower consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPFs) correlates with reduced cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk in individuals with hypertension and hypercholesterolemia, indicating dietary influence.
Individuals with lower food consumption of fats and oils (FOPS) showed similar trends in reduced CVD risks, independent of medication use.
Observational analysis within the CARTaGENE cohort highlights the importance of dietary choices in managing cardiovascular health.
Findings indicate dietary recommendations could be vital for preventing cardiovascular diseases, promoting overall heart health.
Abstract
In individuals with hypertension or hypercholesterolemia, lower consumption of UPFs or foods with FOPS was similarly associated with lower CVD risk, independent of concomitant medication use.
