Ghana's urban areas are increasingly adopting social media platforms as primary means of communication, influencing various aspects of daily life and societal interactions. The research employs a qualitative approach, focusing on interviews with urban residents, observation of social media usage, and analysis of online content. Data is collected from secondary sources such as news articles and academic journals. Urban dwellers in Ghana have shifted their primary communication channels towards social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp, with a notable increase in informal group chats and community announcements compared to traditional methods. Social media has become an integral part of daily urban life in Ghana, significantly altering how information is shared and communities are mobilized. However, it also presents challenges such as misinformation and privacy concerns. Authorities should promote digital literacy programmes to mitigate risks associated with social media usage, while encouraging the use of platforms for positive community engagement and public service announcements.
