I am proud that when I worked at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy, we worked together with Congress to pass the Modernizing Addiction Treatment (MAT) Act, which eliminated the X‐waiver that required prescribers to obtain additional Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) approvals to prescribe buprenorphine for addiction treatment. (As an aside, the DEA is trying to create “son of the X‐waiver” in the context of their telemedicine special registry, but that is for another commentary).
