Abstract: Odisha represents one of the most enduring civilizational spaces in India where the interaction between Sanskritic knowledge traditions and regional cultural practices produced a distinctive and holistic knowledge system. Sanskrit literature, functioning as the principal medium of intellectual discourse, played a foundational role in shaping Odisha’s philosophical outlook, religious traditions, scientific knowledge, political ideology, artistic expressions, and linguistic development. Far from being a static or elite tradition, Sanskrit knowledge in Odisha evolved through processes of localization, vernacularization, and cultural synthesis. This paper offers a comprehensive analysis of how Sanskrit literature shaped the Odishan Knowledge System by examining its philosophical, religious, scientific, artistic, educational, and socio-political dimensions. The study situates Odisha within the broader Indian Knowledge System (IKS) while highlighting its unique regional contributions and adaptive strategies.
