• Six kinds of roof combination forms and main controlling factors of surrounding rock stability of mining roadway in Huainan mining area are clarified; • The quantitative classification system of surrounding rock in Huainan mining area is constructed, which is divided into 4 stability categories and 27 surrounding rock types. • The intelligent anchor net cable support design system is developed to significantly improve the support effect and reduce the project cost. Huainan mining area’s mines have entered 800-1000m deep mining, facing severe mine pressure and large surrounding rock deformation due to high ground stress, complex geology, and strong mining. Existing coal roadway bolt-mesh support design lacks theoretical basis with inaccurate parameters, while surrounding rock classification is unsuitable for field needs. Therefore, this paper investigates the classification and support design system for coal roadway surrounding rock in the Huainan mining area. Based on extensive field investigations and statistical analyses of geological and mechanical parameters, key factors influencing surrounding rock stability are identified. A scientific and straightforward quantitative evaluation method and index system for surrounding rock stability are developed, supportability levels are categorized, and targeted support forms and parameter schemes are proposed. Consequently, a bolt-mesh-cable support design system tailored to the geological conditions of the mining area is established. This system facilitates the transition from empirical analogy to quantitative intelligent decision-making by automatically matching support parameters corresponding to the rock mass grade."
