Abstract

The present report outlines the outreach activities carried out at the local level within the e-SAFE project, which aims to promote affordable, integrated solutions for the energy-efficient and seismic renovation of buildings. The project placed strong emphasis on local stakeholder engagement through the creation of Local Platforms in Catania (Italy), Timisoara (Romania), and Bucharest (Romania). These platforms served as vital hubs for community involvement, knowledge exchange, and co-design, linking technical innovation with social participation. In Catania – the project’s real pilot site – outreach activities included stakeholder engagement activities, co-design workshops with residents, and hands-on training for engineers and architects. The co-creation process involved residents directly in shaping renovation plans, fostering both trust and enthusiasm for the proposed solutions. The virtual pilots in Timisoara and Bucharest allowed e-SAFE technologies to be tested in diverse building types and urban settings. In Timisoara, a local high school became a platform for educational outreach and civic engagement, while in Bucharest efforts focused on retrofitting a residential building. In both cities, collaboration with local authorities, residents, and professionals helped develop renovation projects tailored to local needs and constraints.Across all three locations, training events and stakeholder meetings enhanced awareness of energy and seismic challenges, while empowering communities to become active participants in the renovation process. Overall, the local outreach activities under e-SAFE underscore the necessity of combining technological solutions with community-driven processes to foster urban resilience and sustainability.
