AbstractMedicinal plants are of immense importance in the field of research as they serve as potential ingredients for the synthesis of novel drugs. Pogostemon benghalensis (Burm.f.) Kuntze is a perennial, edible, aromatic shrub, classified under the family Lamiaceae and is widely recognized for its medicinal value across different cultures. The current study was undertaken to assess the phytochemicals contributing to its medicinal properties and GC-MS analysis of the methanolic leaf extract of Pogostemon benghalensis (Burm.f.) Kuntze. Analysis of the phytochemical profile indicated the presence of flavonoids, phenols, tannins, steroids, terpenoids, and carbohydrates. The GC-MS analysis identified a total of 25 bioactive constituents like vaccenic acid, octadecanoic acid, naphtoquinone, pentadecanoic acid, ß-sitosterol etc. The phytochemical screening and GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of many bioactive compounds which might attribute to the medicinal properties of the plant.
