This article presents conceptual approaches to the category of well-being, which is considered as an alternative to other measures of social progress and economic growth. To this end, a review of current research by domestic and international authors on this topic is conducted, presenting their approaches to the essence of well-being, classified by types and subtypes. The theoretical review is based on all sources of scientific literature to which the authors had access (eLIBRARY.RU; scholar.google.ru; the Elsevier website), where the concept under study (well-being, types of well-being, approaches to assessing well-being) appears, specifically in terms of references in the text of the work or in the definition itself of the determinants of this phenomenon. The article systematizes the types and approaches to assessing well-being, demonstrating the categorys multidimensionality (measured using both statistical and sociological indicators, using various scales, indices, and ratings), its multifaceted nature (the subject field of well-being assessments is very broad), and its multilevel nature (measurements extend to different levels, from personal well-being to the territorial level). The study assessed the socio-ecological-economic well-being of Russian regions using a multiplicative model based on A. Sens abbreviated well-being function.
