Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Classroom Behaviour of Secondary Students in Paschim Medinipur

The present study titled “Impact of Emotional Intelligence on Classroom Behaviour of Secondary School Students in PaschimMedinipur District” aims to explore the role of emotional intelligence in shaping students’ behaviour within classroom settings. Emotional intelligence, as conceptualized by Daniel Goleman (1995), plays a crucial role in managing emotions, developing interpersonal relationships, and enhancing social adjustment among adolescents. The study adopts a quantitative approach using a descriptive survey method and involves a sample of 200 secondary school students selected through random sampling techniques. The major objectives of the study are to assess the level of emotional intelligence, examine classroom behaviour patterns, and analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and classroom behaviour. Standardized tools are used to collect data on emotional intelligence and classroom behaviour. The collected data are analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential techniques such as t-test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The findings of the study reveal that most students possess an average level of emotional intelligence and demonstrate moderate classroom behaviour. A significant difference is observed in emotional intelligence and classroom behaviour across gender groups. Furthermore, the study establishes a positive and significant relationship between emotional intelligence and classroom behaviour, indicating that students with higher emotional intelligence tend to exhibit better classroom conduct. The study highlights the importance of integrating emotional intelligence into the educational process to promote positive behaviour and effective learning environments. It suggests that teachers and policymakers should focus on emotional skill development as a key component of holistic education.
