The Pyruvate Dehydrogenase Phosphatase 1 (PDP1) enzyme helps fuel endurance by activating the Pyruvate Dehydrogenase (PDH) complex, which is vital for aerobic energy in muscle cells. This project compares PDP1 structures in humans, horses, and pigeons-species known for their stamina --- using BLASTp, AlphaFold, and TM-align. While the core catalytic regions are conserved, subtle structural differences in flexible loops and interface regions may reflect adaptation for sustained activity. Notably, AlphaFold predicts a unique alpha-helix segment in all models that experimental methods have yet to capture, hinting at unexplored functional features. These findings showcase bioinformatics as a powerful lens for revealing molecular clues behind endurance.
