The Temporal Dominance of Emotions (TDE) method is used to capture dynamic transitions across multiple emotional states. Conventional TDE relies on real-time, button-press tasks that demand sustained visual attention and manual input, limiting its use in interactive or attention-intensive contexts. To overcome these constraints, we proposed an offline TDE method that enables retrospective reporting of emotional changes by having participants watch recordings of their own experiences. We evaluated this method using two games with distinct interaction styles: a continuously controlled shooting game and a turn-based card game (Blackjack). Seventeen participants assessed their emotions both during gameplay (online TDE) and during subsequent video playback (offline TDE). The frequency of reported emotional transitions was comparable between the two methods, and the median similarity of reported emotions ranged approximately from 60% to 90% for both games. These findings demonstrate the validity of the offline TDE approach and highlight its potential to broaden the applicability of emotion assessment protocols and data analysis in affective research.
