This study aimed to reveal the appreciation score of public-school students in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman for the role of student councils in enhancing their democratic practice, and ways to develop it, in addition to knowing the impact of variables of gender and stage of study. To achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher used the descriptive analytical method, where the researcher prepared a questionnaire consisting of (39) statements, which was applied to the study sample consisting of (268) male and female students in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate.The results of the study showed that the estimated degree of public school students for the role of student councils in enhancing their democratic practice amounted to (3.71), that is, to a large degree. The results also showed that there were statistically significant differences at the significance level (α = 0.05) between males and females, in favor of for males, there were no differences between the levels of school in all statements.The results of the study indicated that the most important ways to develop student councils to enhance democratic practice among students in public schools are: using teaching methods that enhance the culture and skills of dialogue, such as brainstorming, critical thinking, and others.
