People have been traveling to fulfil their religious obligations all around the world, but particularly in India. For this reason, people travel to sacred sites and shrines. Different places are considered sacred by different religions. Additionally, traveling to locations associated with one's faith is motivated by spirituality. Traveling alone or in groups for pilgrimages, spiritual benefits, or to achieve salvation or moksha is known as religious tourism. Another name for it is "faith tourism." It is a trip made in order to honour and worship a location with particular religious importance. People travel to places that are thought to possess unique spiritual abilities, such as the birthplace or deathplace of founders or saints, the site of their spiritual awakening, places where miracles were witnessed or performed, places where a deity is believed to reside or have performed the penance, or any other location.
