The telecover test is well known and accepted as a tool to experimentally determine the height of full overlap between receiver field-of-view and laser beam. The established test procedure is applicable to individual signals for the retrieval of backscatter profiles from elastically backscattered signals only. This manuscript proposes extensions for the method which can be applied on the retrieval of optical properties from signal ratios (e.g. Raman backscatter profiles) or from signal slopes (extinction profiles) as well as a way to reduce the influence of atmospheric variability.
