ABSTRACT The global demand for conventional meat continues to rise, but it is also associated with substantial environmental and health challenges. In response, meat alternatives have gained popularity, sparking debates over meat alternative labeling regulations. This study investigates the effects of meat alternative labeling regulations in the United States on meat consumption patterns. Using data from the Meat Demand Monitor (MDM) dashboard and an event study design, we analyze state‐level consumption trends before and after the implementation of labeling regulations. Our findings reveal no significant changes in the consumption of beef, chicken, pork, fish/seafood, and alternative proteins following these regulations, suggesting that labeling restrictions have minimal impact on consumer behavior.
