Abstract Medicinal plants have served as the primary source of therapeutic agents since ancient times. Even today, many modern drugs are derived either directly from plant extracts or through the modification of natural compounds. Plants produce bioactive substances known as phytoconstituents, which play essential roles in their biological functions and defense mechanisms against pathogens such as viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms. Interestingly, these compounds also exhibit significant therapeutic benefits for humans. Hernandia nymphaeifolia is an important traditional medicinal plant widely used in various indigenous systems of medicine to manage different health conditions. Extracts obtained from different parts of the plant have shown notable therapeutic efficacy. Several pharmacological studies have reported its diverse biological activities, including anti-cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet aggregation, vasodilatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and calcium-signaling effects. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the plant’s taxonomical classification, phytochemical composition, pharmacological properties, and its potential therapeutic applications.
