Rara Mendut is a symbol of resistance that transforms into a monumental story. The story of Rara Mendut is set during the Mataram Kingdom. This research aims to interpret the way of women’s resistance in the fiction of Rara Mendut. The research data source is the Ketoprak Rara Mendut Putri Boyongan (Ketoprak Rara Mendut, Captured Princess) produced by RRI Yogyakarta in 2018. The research data consist of verbal symbols that represent women’s resistance to patriarchal culture. Data were collected using reading and note-taking techniques. The meaning of women’s resistance is analyzed through the subdimension of myth–history symbol analysis, which is part of the futurosemiotics approach. Futurosemiotics is a transdisciplinary approach that combines Roland Barthes’ semiotics and Herman Kahn’s futurology. The results show that women’s resistance takes the form of both covert and overt resistance. The women’s resistance in the Ketoprak Rara Mendut Putri Boyongan (Ketoprak Rara Mendut, Captured Princess) fiction is influenced by patriarchal culture. However, with the existence of individual awareness of marginalization, it is projected that Javanese women’s resistance will be accommodated collectively, thereby creating the potential for equality.
