In recent years STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) pedagogy has gained much importance to promote joyful and active learning. In the field of astronomy, STEAM approach can be particularly engaging and informative. Students can learn about the scientific methods, observation, data analysis, and various scientific phenomena in astronomy. STEAM approach in astronomy education can make the subject more accessible and engaging for students. It encourages a multidisciplinary perspective and fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through hands on activities in astronomy, students can gain experiential learning which can also positively affect their motivation and may lead to learning satisfaction. Arts and creativity can be easily infused in a STEAM project in astronomy, which in turn can help students develop a deeper appreciation for the beauty and wonder of the universe. This paper investigates learning in a carefully designed STEAM project named iSTEAM Moon Over Us. Students all over the globe were engaged in STEAM challenges in astronomy through the project. The survey data from the project revealed that STEAM activities enhanced students’ experiential learning learning, motivation, and self-efficacy. • The study presents a novel integration of STEAM and astronomy through the “Moon Over Us” project. • It demonstrates real-world experiential learning through global collaboration and data-driven inquiry. • A multi-method evaluation approach is employed, including an aptitude test, expert review, and student survey. • The study also highlights inclusive STEAM activities designed for specially abled children in astronomy.
