Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 has shaken international norms and divided the world community into antagonistic groups. In this conflict, Europe has largely united against Russia but responses in Asia show differences of national interests, strategic calculations, and historical pathways and interactions. China and India retain their “strategic partnership” with Russia while cautiously avoiding direct confrontation with the West, while many other Asian countries have adopted a wait and see approach.
