The SI works comprised the mechanical excavation of 10 trial-pits (Tr), typically measuring 2m in length, 0.6m in width and between 1.8 and 2.2m in depth. In February 2024, Cotswold Archaeology (CA) carried out an archaeological watching brief during Site Investigation (SI) works on land at Brue Farm, Highbridge, Somerset (centred at NGR: 331857 146670). The watching brief was undertaken for Keepmoat. The SI works comprised the mechanical excavation of 10 trial-pits (Tr), typically measuring 2m in length, 0.6m in width and between 1.8 and 2.2m in depth. The natural substrate was not observed during the monitoring of the SI works. The earliest deposit observed was a blue grey silt clay alluvial deposit, recorded at an average depth of 1.9m below present ground level (bpgl), in trial-pits 105, 106 and 109 . This was directly overlain by a grey brown silt clay alluvial deposit measuring an average of 1.3m in thickness, recorded in all the trial-pits; which was, in turn, overlain by an average of 0.3m of subsoil and by 0.28m of topsoil. No archaeological features were encountered and no artefactual material was recovered during the course of the watching brief.
