ABSTRACT This paper presents theoretical aspects and experimental tests for the design and optimization of a novel ducted fan propulsion system, complemented by multi‐element wings inspired by Handley Page and the aerodynamic Channel Wing concept. We validate this design by measuring the thrust of the shrouded and unshrouded versions of counter‐rotating electric motors/propellers and by varying the exit area of the shroud using different diameters of the lower propeller. We also try to decrease the vibrations of this propulsion system by varying the 3D printing infill characteristics of the shrouds. The results demonstrate significant increases in thrust and maximum lift, along with noise reduction and improved maneuverability at low speeds, which are essential for UAV and eVTOL applications.
