Abstract A general formula for the variance of Gini's mean difference, a measure of dispersion, is given in this paper for simple random sampling without replacement from a finite population. Formulas for estimating the variance are also given together with a numerical example. Similar results are developed for Gini's coefficient of concentration, a relative measure of dispersion.
