Does paclitaxel-releasing drug-coated balloon angioplasty improve angiographic patency in an 81-year-old man with inferior STEMI and recent ischemic stroke?

Population

81-year-old man with inferior STEMI, recent ischemic stroke (new neurological deficits), and proximally occluded ectatic right coronary artery (RCA).

Intervention

Paclitaxel-releasing drug-coated balloon (PDCB) angioplasty (initial 4.0/40mm, followed by 4.0/30mm and 4.0/40mm at 36 hours) and aspiration thrombectomy.

Outcome

Angiographic patency (TIMI III flow) and sustained patency at 36 hours.surrogate

Drug-coated balloon-only PCI may be a feasible stentless strategy for STEMI patients with high bleeding risk, allowing for shortened dual antiplatelet therapy.
