An archaeological trench evaluation was undertaken by AC archaeology during November 2025 on land at Curlew Farm, Combpyne, Devon. The evaluation comprised the machine excavation of six trenches totaling 180m in length with each trench1.8m wide. These were positioned within the footprint of a proposed new agricultural building as well testing a wider zone with reference to a potential future development application. A previous geophysical survey had interpreted a single large amorphous anomaly. The site is situated adjacent to a Scheduled Bronze Age barrow cemetery. The evaluation did not identify any pre-modern archaeological features or deposits. A single modern intrusion was present in one of the trenches that corresponded with the amorphous geophysical anomaly. There was no evidence for activity associated with the adjacent barrow cemetery exposed. No finds were recovered.
