The paper presents the simulation-based study of Model Predictive Torque Control of Induction Motors for Electric Vehicle (EV) Applications. Predictive control methods, such as Model Predictive Torque Control (MPTC) provide better torque tracking, transient response, and disturbance tolerance. Predictive control is crucial in EVs because it can improve the overall efficiency, performance, safety and energy management. Unlike traditional controllers, like PI, PID, hysteresis, etc. , predictive torque control is the best alternative in electric vehicle applications. The paper describes the mathematical modelling of Two Level, Three Phase, Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) fed induction motor drive using predictive torque control algorithm in MATLAB/Simulink’ ^x24C7, The results of the simulation indicate that MPTC can achieve precise torque control even under varying load conditions as well as variation in motor drive parameters.
